The Hans Merensky Golf Course in Phalaborwa borders the Kruger National Park and is therefore in the Lowveld. The elevation of the golf course is plus minus 400m above see level. So if you are used to the Highveld play an extra club with all your shots. In the summer time temperature can reach 45 degrees Celsius so take enough fluids with you.
The fairways are relatively forgiving, however when you hit your ball off the fairway you will not find much grass and some areas are sandy/rocky. Also be careful of snakes. We have seen some puff adders just off the fairway.
The greens are medium speed and does not turn as much as what you will be used to. The green are relatively hard (it needs to support giraffe’s and other big animals walking on it) so it is sometimes difficult to make the ball stop on the greens. It is however more something to take into consideration than something that make the greens impossible to play.
Also note that all the animals on the golf course are wild animals and should not be approach.
